Laos, Russia agree to strengthen legal cooperation

VIENTIANE -- The Office of the Supreme People's Prosecutor of Laos and the Prosecutor General's Office of Russia have agreed to jointly carry out activities in 2025-2026, with the goal of enhancing legal cooperation and promoting mutual understanding in prosecutorial work.

Under an agreement signed here on Wednesday, the two sides will hold at least one official meeting each year and regularly exchange professional and legal documents. These exchanges aim to build institutional capacity, support legal reforms, and support the rule of law in both countries, the local Pasaxon newspaper reported on Thursday.

The two sides will convene joint meetings to discuss enhancing prosecutorial functions and the integration of digital technologies, including the potential use of artificial intelligence in legal work. Expert meetings will also be held on child protection and measures to combat crimes against children.

Additionally, both parties agreed to participate in joint training sessions at least once a year and to regularly exchange legal, technical, and scientific documents to strengthen prosecutorial cooperation.
