Singaporean delegation visits Chongqing to strengthen procuratorial cooperation

Daphne Hong, the Solicitor-General of Singapore's Attorney General's Chambers, led a delegation to Chongqing Municipal People's Procuratorate from June 10 to 12 to enhance judicial cooperation between the two nations.

During the visit, Shi Xialian, chief prosecutor of the Chongqing Municipal People's Procuratorate, highlighted the strong and growing collaboration between the prosecutorial bodies of both countries.

The Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP) of China prioritizes foreign-related prosecutorial work and actively enhances judicial cooperation with Singapore's Attorney-General's Chambers, serving as a model for bilateral judicial exchange.

Shi highlighted the significance of the Singaporean delegation's visit to Chongqing, noting that it will strengthen China-Singapore ties and foster mutual learning between their prosecutorial bodies, advancing the development of the rule of law.

The Chongqing Municipal People's Procuratorate is committed to enhancing exchanges with the Singaporean side, promoting practical cooperation, and learning from each other by sharing experiences, in order to provide high-quality judicial safeguards for the high-quality economic and social development of both countries and Belt and Road cooperation, he said.

Hong acknowledged the longstanding, fruitful cooperation between Singapore and China's prosecutorial authorities and expressed her eagerness to learn from China's innovations in prosecutorial reform and digital prosecution.

She anticipates ongoing exchanges to build mutual trust and strengthen the long-term cooperation between the two countries. While in Chongqing, the delegation visited several key sites including the Yongchuan District People's Procuratorate and the Cultural Heritage Protection Center. They also explored the Yangtze River Ecological Practice Base for Prosecutors, and the Digital Prosecution Application Center where they observed the digital prosecution dashboard and gained insights into cultural heritage protection, ecological preservation, and digital prosecution.

At a symposium, Gao Songlin, deputy chief prosecutor of Chongqing Municipal People's Procuratorate, presented on the Chinese prosecutorial system, highlighting Chongqing's achievements in legal proceedings, case management and digital prosecution. Hong shared insights into Singapore's prosecutorial system. Both sides engaged in in-depth discussions on the functions of the prosecutorial authorities, case management, and the use of information technology in prosecutorial practices in both countries.
