A delegation from the European Union Agency for Criminal Justice Cooperation (Eurojust), led by its Vice President José de la Mata, visited procuratorial organs in Southwest China's Sichuan province from July 24 to 25.
During the visit, Wang Lin, Chief Prosecutor of the Sichuan Provincial People's Procuratorate, met with José de la Mata and his delegation. Wang extended his warm welcome to the guests and noted that this year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the EU and that this visit fully demonstrates the importance the Eurojust attaches to China-EU judicial cooperation. He expressed confidence that both sides would enhance mutual understanding, expand consensus, and lay a solid foundation for further practical cooperation in the field of criminal justice.
José de la Mata expressed his appreciation to Wang for the meeting and gave a brief on the Eurojust's functions and its approaches to international criminal justice cooperation. He stated that the Eurojust highly valued this exchange, hoping to enhance mutual trust and interaction, explore more efficient and effective methods of cooperation, and establish a sound foundation for promoting collaboration and exchanges between China and the EU in criminal justice.
During the visit, the delegation held practical exchanges with representatives from the Sichuan Provincial People's Procuratorate, the Chengdu Municipal People's Procuratorate, and the Guanghan Municipal People's Procuratorate on topics including felony prosecution, international judicial assistance in criminal cases, and procuratorial efforts in protecting historical and cultural heritage.
The meetings and discussions were also attended by Cao Hua, Deputy Director General of the International Cooperation Bureau of the Supreme People's Procuratorate, Lei Xiuhua, Deputy Chief Prosecutor of the Sichuan Provincial People's Procuratorate, and Li Pengfei, Permanent Member of the Procuratorial Committee of the Sichuan Provincial People's Procuratorate. Relevant representatives from procuratorial organs in Chengdu and Deyang also participated.
