The Singapore Ministry of Law (MinLaw) and the Uzbekistan Ministry of Justice signed a Cooperation Program on August 25, 2025 to advance the implementation of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed by both parties more than four years ago.
The MOU signed on April 22, 2021 provided a framework for legal cooperation between the two countries, which included exchanging information on promoting the rule of law, and sharing experiences in the provision of legal services, including on international dispute resolution services.
Signed by Singapore's Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Law and Ministry of Transport Murali Pillai SC and Uzbekistan's Deputy Minister of Justice Sherzad Rabiev at the sidelines of the Singapore Convention Week 2025, the Cooperation Program outlines the plan for joint activities and collaborations between MinLaw and the Uzbekistan Ministry of Justice for 2025 and 2026.
These include organization of mutual visits between both ministries, discussions in the field of professional development and training of legal personnel, and exchange of experiences in various areas such as international dispute resolution, the Singapore Convention on Mediation, promotion of the rule of law and legal aid.
"The signing of the Cooperation Program is a testament of our shared commitment to collaboration, both in advancing the rule of law and in fostering meaningful dialogue on developments in the legal sector. We look forward to continuing our strong partnership with Uzbekistan in legal cooperation," said Murali Pillai SC.
