On Jan 21, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet chaired a meeting of the Commission for Combating Online Scams (CCOS) to review progress in ongoing operations and set targets for the continued eradication of online scams.
Manet stressed that combating online scams is a top priority among the government’s current tasks.
Manet said on Jan 13 that the Cambodian government has made combating online scams a top priority and will continue to take tough and decisive law enforcement actions to eradicate these crimes, thereby enhancing Cambodia’s international image and reputation.
On the same day, Manet stated via social media that safeguarding national security, maintaining public order, and preventing crime are essential responsibilities of the Cambodian government in guaranteeing a peaceful life for its citizens. He pointed out that online scams are a major target of the crackdown due to their significant social impact and strong transnational nature.
Manet noted that online scams, being highly transnational, organized, and concealed, pose a serious threat to the nation and society. The Cambodian authorities have previously taken resolute and effective measures to combat these crimes, achieving positive results. He called on all sectors of society to join together in eradicating online scams and comprehensively enhancing Cambodia's national image and international reputation.
