164th four-nation Mekong patrol seeks to suppress cross-border crime

On April 20, the 164th joint patrol and law enforcement action carried out by China, Laos, Myanmar and Thailand in the Mekong River was launched. At 9:00 a.m., law enforcement vessels from China, Laos, and Myanmar participating in the operation respectively set sail from Jingha in China, Ban Xiangkok in Laos and Wan Pong in Myanmar.

After conducting segmented patrols in accordance with the operation plan, the parties will rendezvous in designated waters of the Mekong River to carry out joint patrol and law enforcement activities, focusing on combating cross-border illegal activities such as fraud, smuggling and illegal immigration in the river basin, so as to ensure the safety of passing vessels and the surrounding areas.

For this operation, the four countries dispatched a total of 131 law enforcement officers and five vessels. The command post of the operation was set up on the Chinese patrol boat 53108, with commanders from all four sides jointly directing the operation.

During the operation, law enforcement departments of the four countries will also hold an information exchange meeting in Chiang Saen, Thailand, to jointly analyze the recent situation in the Mekong River basin and discuss priorities for their future cooperation.

Meanwhile, the parties will conduct joint training in the waters from the Golden Triangle to Ban Xiangkok along the Mekong River, exchanging and sharing experiences on technology-enabled law enforcement through real-equipment, scenario-based and real-environment drills, so as to enhance the precision and efficiency of the four countries' joint law enforcement efforts.
